Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple projects from inception through completion. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers and operational teams to monitor budgets, track costs, analyze project performance, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and financial performance.
- Track project expenditures and ensure costs are accurately coded and recorded.
- Prepare and maintain project cost reports, forecasts, and profitability analyses.
- Review contracts, change orders, and subcontractor agreements for financial impact.
- Assist with billing, invoicing, revenue recognition, and collections.
- Reconcile project accounts and investigate variances.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to project accounting.
- Work closely with project managers to provide financial guidance and reporting.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
- Assist with audits and financial compliance requirements.
- Analyze project margins and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of accounting, project accounting, construction accounting, or cost accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Construction, engineering, manufacturing, government contracting, or professional services industries.
- Job costing and WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting.
- Budgeting and forecasting.
- AIA billing and contract management.
- Sage, Viewpoint, Deltek, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $70,000 - $100,000+ annually, depending on experience.
